FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --- CONTACT: Matt Fraction Dave Potter Larry Young WRITER-PUBLISHER LARRY YOUNG BECOMES FULL-TIME
SAVANT 22 JUNE 2000-- SAVANT (www.savantmag.com), the freeware webzine of Comics and Activism announced today that Larry Young, writer-publisher of Astronauts in Trouble (www.ait-planetlar.com), will be continuing his TRUE FACTS column as a regular, weekly feature. A combination of a How-To and an insider's look at the world of publishing, Young's column has been one of SAVANT's most popular features since its premiere in the second issue. TRUE FACTS, at first a bonus and finite series of articles that walked the reader step-by-step through the process of publishing your own comics, will continue to allow Young a place where he can regale readers with his trials and tribulations in the world of publishing funny books. "If SAVANT is about anything, it's about the Do It Yourself work-ethic. Larry has not only done it himself, but he's gracious enough to share his trade secrets with anyone who wants to learn them," said Matt Fraction, one of the three Editors-in-Chief of SAVANT. "He's a fool not to charge people for this stuff. Or maybe we are." "Well, I've had a lot of help, myself, Matt," said Young. "Guys like Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis, Kurt Busiek, Darick Robertson, Kieron Dwyer, Brian Wood, and Matt Hollingsworth really went out of their respective ways to give us some choice bits of wisdom exactly when we needed to hear it, when we were first starting up. This is just my way of making sure my karma stays cool." Beginning as an acetate-covered review zine in 1995, AiT/Planet Lar has grown into a full-fledged publishing house. Future plans for AiT/PlanetLar include the July 12th release of the former Oni Press miniseries Nobody, by Alex Amado, Sharon Cho, and AiT artist Charlie Adlard; the August publication of the Kurt Busiek intro'ed AiT: Space 1959 collection; the September release of the"director's cut" of Brian Wood's acclaimed socio-political series Channel Zero; and the October debut of the Astronauts in Trouble: One Shot, One Beer prestige format graphic novel. All this and TRUE FACTS, too; the link will begin running in the latest issue of SAVANT, posted June 22, 2000. --- If You Are Interested in Contributing to Savant. To
